El origen olvidado de Villafranca – Ordizia. Ermita de San Bartolomé

The aim of this article is to know more about the history of Saint Bartholomew hermitage, this temple is located in Ordizia (Basque Country, Spain), we approached its research in order to discern whether oral tradition is historically accurate or not. Apart from the oral tradition, no specific studies have been addressed about Saint Bartholomew hermitage. First steps were accomplished in 2012, as archaeological intervention began, but was in 2018 when biggest boost to research has been given and more information has been obtained. Different remains were found, new hypothesis suggested and proven the real potential of the archaeological site. Nowadays, Saint Bartholomew hermitage becomes an important place and a real option to know more about the past of Villafranca de Ordizia. This article, we think, is the best example.
