This article aims to highlight the work of heritage conservative architects, referring to the particular case of Magne Kvam, a Norwegian architect who works on the conservation of the architectural and archaeological heritage of the municipality of Hedmark, which is responsible of overseeing the restoration work of the Sverre Fehn Hedmark Museum in Hamar. The opportunity arises on the occasion of my interest in the Hedmark Museum of the architect Sverre Fehn in Hamar, one of the most recognized works of this Norwegian master. The meeting results from one of my trips to the place, made at the end of May 2016. The text relates and covers the virtues and defects of the work, highlighting the author’s “honesty principle” with the building and its materiality, as well as the links that the architecture establishes with the history of the place, putting in value the existing heritage and, at the same time, endowing it with a new life, a new functionality, true essence of the architecture.
