Abstract

The development of conservation and restoration projects is often focused on the intervention of an object, a collection, or a building, either individually or together. However, setting up a conservation studio is not commonly regarded as a project in itself. As professional freelance conservators, we’ve faced challenges where the academics don’t meet with real-life practice, not only when executing an intervention but also in relation to administrative, bureaucratic, dissemination and awareness processes that are linked to it. With this text we seek to share our vision and experience with other conservators.
