Bioarchaeology in battlefields: Proposed study of the Yaqui War

Abstract

One of the best known armed events in the military history, from the late nineteen hundreds up to the start of the next century, of the Mexican state of Sonora was the Yaqui War, which led to a genocide and to the displacement of this ethnic group. In this paper a proposal is presented for an interdisciplinary research of that particular belic conflict, with the purpose of locating battlefields, securing material evidence or expressions of the Yaqui´s cultural values. Plus, there´s an emphasis on the recovery of Yaquis’ osseous remains and to deliver such findings to the ethnic group, so they may honor and dispose of it in accordance with their customs and belief.
