Abstract

The first stage of tango history coincides with the creation of the liberal, agricultural exporting country and the locals led the English landlords and investors. At the time of the Old Guard tango, from 1880 to 1920 (Ferrer, 1999: 48-51), coincided with the large immigration of Italians and Spaniards attracted by the possibility of access to land in the vast and fertile region the pampas. This possibility is generally frustrated by the land owner monopoly and immigrant youth in high proportion ended settled in port cities, especially Buenos Aires and Rosario. This population was integrated in part to the brothel network as pupils, customers and musicians, a peculiar atmosphere of the tango was born.
